At Revive Wesleyan, we believe that you are on a lifelong faith journey. We hold that the path to Christian maturity starts before choosing to follow Jesus and continues until you breathe your last breath. Along your journey through life, God enables us to live a Christ-like life by spiritually shaping us through the means of grace.
In his sermon “The Means of Grace,” John Wesley highlights three primary means of grace that Christians have traditionally observed: prayer, scripture reading, and communion.
Through prayer, we seek God’s assistance, strength, and forgiveness while remaining open to His guidance. In times of prayer, the Holy Spirit will shape your will and desires to better reflect the heart of God.
By engaging with Scripture through hearing, reading, and reflecting on it, you delve into Christ’s teachings and the grand narrative of scripture. We believe the Holy Spirit communicates with us through the inspired word of God.
Communion is a concrete way for you to experience God’s grace. Through this sacrament, you confess and repent of your sins, recognize your ongoing dependence on God, reaffirm your Christian convictions, and demonstrate your love for one another by partaking in the shared meal.
At Revive Wesleyan, we prioritize scripture and prayer as our top two values among the seven. We consider them crucial for spiritual growth, so they are significant in our beliefs and practices.
Revive Wesleyan’s definitions of scripture and prayer:
We keep the eternal truth of Scripture central because it is God-inspired and authoritative for salvation and all matters of Christian living.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 Matthew 24:35 Hebrews 4:12-14
We connect directly with God individually and collectively. At all times, we listen, repent, lament, give thanks, and intercede for ourselves and others through the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 6:18 Luke 18:1-8 Philippians 4:6
Participating in Communion at Revive Wesleyan:
At Revive Wesleyan, we observe Communion approximately once a month, often following the sermon series as an application of what was taught. We believe that the bread and drink do not physically transform into Jesus’ flesh and blood during this sacrament. However, we believe that Jesus’ presence is spiritually manifested in and through the elements in a mysterious way that transcends our complete comprehension. We believe God’s sanctifying grace is present in this shared meal.
At Revive Wesleyan, our goal is to help you become more like Jesus through the use of spiritual practices known as the means of grace. We prioritize the importance of engaging with scripture, teaching you how to pray effectively, and providing regular opportunities for you to experience God’s sanctifying grace through communion.
